DishwashersDishwashers come in many varieties. They clean your dishes not only without much of your manual labor, but also with the possibility of using stronger detergents than we can handle on a regular basis. Even if such chemicals aren't used, however, the basic premise of a dishwasher is cleaning your dishes with very hot water. In fact, most of the energy used by dishwashers is in heating this water. Dishwashers may also have heating elements used to dry your dishes. Many dishwashers have a pole or similar structure in the middle coming up from the bottom in order to direct water to the dishes on the top rack. Many dishwashers also have garbage disposal-like features that help clear away food particles or are connected to your disposal. Since dishwashers have many parts, including timers, motors, and valves, many things can potentially go wrong, resulting in everything from water leaking to a detergent compartment that doesn't open. These problems, however, are almost always worth repairing since dishwashers can last for a long time.
